Review: Record of Wrongs (Redemption County #1) by Sharon Kay

Kumiko Lei     5 Stars, Record of Wrongs, Redemption County Review, Sharon Kay     No comments

Do your past mistakes define you forever?

Cruz Zaffino leaves prison after a serving a decade for a crime he didn’t commit. With his life all over the internet, there’s nowhere he can go to avoid his illicit past. Involved with one of Chicago’s toughest gangs, he made enemies bent on ruining everything he has. Nowhere is beyond their reach.

Every day, Rosie Marlow lives with the scars from the worst mistake of her life. It’s the one secret she has in her tiny, gossip-fueled town. When Cruz walks into her bar, covered in tattoos and dangerous attitude, she’s captivated. His rough sexuality makes her melt, and his harsh experience calls to her own broken soul. But her story is private and buried so deep, she’s never had the strength to share it.

She’s the unexpected light to his darkness, yet he knows she’s hiding something. Sultry summer nights in each other’s arms weaken her resistance and taunt her with the idea of forever. But as his adversaries draw close, can she love him enough to let him go?

The minute Rosie met Cruz I was just...

and that shit didn't let up the whole book. I was a big old swoony mess. Probably why I read the whole book in one day.  And let me tell you, it's been a long, long time since I've done that.

Bad boys, face it, they have an appeal.  Bad boys who are really sensitive sex gods with hearts of gold? Whew!

Other than the Cruz factor, the laid back, country lifestyle drew me in. It was like being home. I'm not a city girl, I wouldn't know what to do there. But fishing, driving backroads, swimming holes... that I can do.

And Rosie and Cruz together. They really compliment each other well. Each bringing something to the other that they really need, even if they don't know it.

And the secondary characters, loved them. Especially that smart as hell K-9, Denver. He stole my heart.

I feel like I've been in a reading slump for a really long time, and I think (I hope) this has pulled me out of it.  I really could not put this down.

Crazy Book Porn Confessions #2: The Devil's Taint (Erotic Demon Hunter Tales #1) by Julianne Reyer

Kumiko Lei     Crazy Book Porn Confessions, Erotic Demon Hunter Tales, Julianne Reyer, Review, The Devil's Taint     2 comments

My Guilty Pleasure:  Crazy Book Porn

Some of it I love, some I find amusing, some are so weird I can't help but like it, and some just leave me confused and wondering why.

I read Crazy Book Porn and these are my Confessions.

Casey is a professional demon hunter with a flair for sex magic. She understands the paranormal, and knows just how to deal with the most indecent encounters. But when her newest job draws her into the troubles of a handsome young executive with a past, she finds herself shaken and the magic going awry. Can she control the demon before it's too late?

Warning: This raunchy 6900 word short story is intended for adults only. Contains a bold heroine, a sexy man with powerful secrets, a horny demon, explicit sex, oral sex, anal play, demonic tail fucking, and a diabolically hot threesome!

So when I found this on Amazon for free, I had a little conversation with myself (which happens a lot of the time).  It went a little something like this:

Me:  Hmm... The Devil's Taint.
Other Me:  Double Entendre, anyone?
Me:  Oh, yes, please let it be a double entendre!
Other Me:  Did you read the warning?
Me:  What? A warning? Lemme see.
        *reads warning*
         Ooooh. Gimme!
Other Me:  It had you at "demonic tail fucking", didn't it?
Me:  Shut-up perv, you don't know me!

And then I read it...

Dear "The Devil's Taint",

You had me, you really had me. That warning, it got to me. I love some weird ass shit, and I thought this was going to give it to me. I mean, really, a book about taint? About the devil's taint?  It has to be awesomely perverted and right up my alley, right?

WRONG!

Technically, you have it all. There is taintage, there is oral and anal and YES, there was demonic tail fucking. But something was lacking. It was just kind of blah. Your characters were doing all of this great stuff, but they didn't seem very enthusiastic about it. I know, I know, "crazy book porn", I shouldn't have expected so much, but I did and now I'm let down. Oh well, thanks for trying anyways.

Crazy Book Porn Lover,
Kumiko Lei

Review: Destined to Crave (Descended of Guardians #1) by Setta Jay

Kumiko Lei     5 Stars. Setta Jay, Descended of Guardians, Destined To Crave, Review     1 comment

The descendant of two almighty Gods and a Guardian of Earth, Eirykr “Rykr” is born of immense power. Yet, no amount of strength or skill can save him from the curse that tore him away from his first and only love. Turned into a shadowy assassin, he wields the demons bound to his soul with the ruthlessness of a blade. For nearly a decade, he’s searched for the key to free himself, all the while watching over and dangerously craving the beautiful mate who believes she’s driven him away.

Lucy is a born protector, a trait of her Guardian lineage. When her greatest gift was torn from her, leaving a gaping hole in her soul, she refuses to allow a young Rykr, her known mate, to suffer the same dire consequences. Her fear forces her to make a haunting decision and with a grave threat, she crushes him, demanding they part for a decade. Yet, as the years pass she can feel him watching her from the shadows, conjuring wild fantasies that make her ache for him to finally end their torment.

As time ticks toward the decade mark, dark forces rush to descend. Will Rykr’s secret and relentless need to protect Lucy condemn them to a hopeless destiny of constant craving? Or will Lucy bind them for all eternity, no matter the violent threat to her very soul?

Warning: This title contains dirty talk, bad language and erotically charged scenes meant to scorch your eReader.

Just when I was finally getting over The Guardians...

BAM! Setta Jay hits me with this:

Descended of Guardians

The Guardians' children, a new threat, lot's of smokin' hot lovin'. You can't go wrong.
Lucy & Rykr, fate really fucked them over good.

Honestly though, Setta Jay and this fuckery called fate she weilds so masterfully on The Guardians and now their children... I swear Setta writes some great stories (and some hot sex).

I loved, Loved, LOVED this! I got to peek back in on MY Guardians, I got the down and dirty on Lucy & Rykr and a hint of what's to come.

I'm excited for what's next. I get my Guardians back. Squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!

If you're a fan of The Guardians of the Realms, you'll definitely want to read this.

Oh... and by the way, that lovely, hard to find, waiting for Setta to send me a jar, Magic Ass Cream, made it's appearance. It definitely needs a book of it's own.

Review: Disasters In Dating by Danielle Allen

Kumiko Lei     5 Stars, Danielle Allen, Disasters In Dating, Review     No comments

Dating is hard.
Dating online is hard.
Dating online in your thirties is hard.
Dating online in your thirties after being in a ten-year relationship is hard.

What’s not hard?
Meeting men who aren’t really single.
Having your time wasted.
Receiving unsolicited pictures of genitalia.
Said genitalia.

When did dating become so complicated?

I just want to find a nice, good looking man who replies to my entire text message and doesn’t text me “WYD” every hour. I just want to find a fun loving, intelligent man who doesn’t have a Master’s Degree in Cheating and isn’t fluent in lies. I just want to find a man who is actually the height he listed in his dating profile.

I jumped back into the dating scene with tempered expectations. I didn’t think all the men I would meet were going to be amazing, but I didn’t think so many of them were going to be disasters.

Unsolicited dick pics, cheaters and ghostings.  All part of dating in the age of technology.  Also, true to life experiences that can be found in this book.  Disasters In Dating is one woman's hilarious and sometimes cringeworthy journey back into the dating world.

There is one thing I've come to expect from Danielle Allen's books:  The Unexpected.

Each book she writes is unique and this one was no exception.  I wasn't sure how I was going to feel about the first part of a "choose your own adventure" because, well, cliffhangers aren't exactly my thing.  But, it was a quick read and the rest of my adventure was ready to go rather quickly.

Disasters In Dating was an entertaining, funny peek into the current world of dating that I can vicariously experience since I've been married and NOT dating for the last 13 years.

Desiree meets a lot men, and you'll definitely have a favorite to root for.  But when it comes down to two, who will Desiree (you) choose?

#ThisOne or #ThatOne

You'll only want to read the one you're rooting for, but if you're anything like me and are a glutton for punishment, you will read the one you're not rooting for too.

Danielle Allen
