Review: The Lonely Wolf (The Immortals #6) by Monica La Porta

Unknown     4 Stars, Monica La Porta, Review, The Immortals, The Lonely Wolf     No comments

The Lonely Wolf (The Immortals Book 6)The Lonely Wolf (The Immortals Book 6)

by Monica La Porta

I was given this book for my honest review (4 out of 5 stars)

In this book, you learn of Quintilius and Ludwig's long history. The moment they met so many years ago created an instant bond and love. A forbidden love because of the stigma that their different species societies would not accept it. Quintilius is tired of the heartbreak Ludwig causes by choosing his duty as Archangel over him, so he decides to end their relationship once and for all. However events unfold keeping the two together. Ludwig comes upon an attempted murder of a vampire by werewolves. One of the werewolves turns out to be is Quintilius's son Lupo, a son he knew nothing about. Ludwig and Quintilius must work together to figure out the mystery other vampire deaths and how to clear Lupo's involvement.

Intertwined within the story is Lupo's story and his own forbidden love with Jasmine.

As with her other books Monica La Porta draws you into her stories. Here descriptions of Italy as with her other books makes you feel like you are traveling along the streets. Her characters are so likeable from Quintilius, Lupo, Jasmine and even Ludwig.

Quintilius is a strong alpha werewolf, but he is so loving and loyal. Even though Ludwig toys with his heart he still loves him. He is devoted to Camelia and doesn't follow clan rules and never banned her from his home when she became disabled. He wants to be a father to a son he has always wanted.

In spite of his on and off again treatment of Quintilius, I liked Ludwig too. I got angry with him at times when he couldn't make up his mind on what he wanted and would toy with Quintilius even though it was not his intent to hurt him. He wants to be loyal to his race of Angels, but he questions everything because he can't stop loving Quintilius and eventually he figures out what is more important to him

The story for me ends up being just a beautiful love story that transcends time, race, species, gender. It is a reminder that you cannot always choose who you love. Love is just love regardless of what society tries to dictate.

Review: Work Song by Danielle Allen

Kumiko Lei     5 Stars, Danielle Allen, Review, Work Song     No comments

When society tries to put you in a box, knock the walls down. –Tati Green

“You have a pretty face” is such a back-handed compliment. It’s like telling me that my face is beautiful, but the rest of me is not.

Despite what society says, my curves are hot.
My love life, on the other hand, is not.

My mom says I’ll never find love because of my weight.
My sister says I’ll never find love because of my personality.
My almost-fiancĂ© says I’ll never find love because I’m incapable of loving anyone.

My mom and sister are full of it, but my ex kind of has a point.

At twenty-seven years old, I’ve never been in love. I date a lot, yet sparks never fly. But when I experienced the heart-pounding, skin tingling feeling for the first time, I didn’t think it would be caused by a guy I’ve never met. And I damn sure didn't think he would end up holding my future in his hands in more ways than one.

Once again, Danielle Allen has gotten to me. I don't know how she does it, but she somehow innately knows what to do to draw me in.

What was it this time? A well placed quote from a book/movie that I am obsessed with. (and when I say obsessed, I could legally change my name to Scarlet and my family would NOT be surprised).

That well placed quote is just icing on the cake. This book was amazing.

Tatiana is fierce. She's trying to find her own way in a man's world. Her confidence is something I wish I had, it's something I wish every woman had. I almost want my daughters to read this, just so they can see an example of the type of body confidence they should have.

And Wesley. OhMy! He is the ultimate. He lifts her up, never making her feel less than. That, right there, very well may be the sexiest damn thing ever.

When Tatiana and Wesley are together it's magical. And I loved their journey more than words can say. What I love more than that is that, there are so many things that can be taken from this. For me, it's the body positive message. For others it could be the mental confidence to do what you love, even if it's not mainstream, or finding the courage to believe in yourself and your capacity to love. I think that just about anyone who reads this can find something positive or even inspiring to take away from it.  Honestly, this book just made me feel good, and at the end of the day that's all anybody really wants.

Review: Searing Ecstasy (Guardians Of The Realms #7) by Setta Jay

Kumiko Lei     5 Stars, Guardians Of The Realms, Review, Searing Ecstasy, Setta Jay     No comments

Drake, the powerful dragon and leader of the Guardians, has spent his long life protecting all inhabitants of the four Realms, but fails to save the one who matters most. His mate. In the month since finding her feral, he’s been slowly losing control of his beast and soon he fears the dragon will reign free unleashing it’s fury upon the Realms.

Delia has changed. No longer a carefree young woman, she is now a nightmare in the making. After her abduction and torture she unwillingly houses two beasts and more power than she can ever contain on her own. She can never be released. Nor can she have the male who gives her any semblance of sanity in her new world, the one she craves more than her own freedom.

With unknown enemies on the horizon and yet another God awakened will they lose themselves in the madness of an impossible mating? Or will they come together in searing ecstasy, bonding them in a way that sets them both free?

Warning: Sexually explicit content (beds actually get burned down) and alpha males and females with bad language.

Deep breath. Deep Breath. Deep Breath.

So, this is Drake's book. Do you hear me?

DRAKE'S FUCKING BOOK YA'LL!

I was so scared to read this. I wanted it, but at the same time, I didn't want it. I was nervous, I was excited, I was sad, I was happy. I mean, 'cause really, I laid claim to that Dragon a long, long time ago. It was a weird mix of emotions... eh, anyway, enough about that.

Please, please, please, for the love of all things paranormal and sexy, go read the other books in this series. Do not even attempt to read the dragon until you've read the rest. Go. Now. You'll thank me later.

I can pretty much do this is one sentence:

This freaking book was amazing!

But I'm sure there are some who would like more words, so I'll try.

This one was a two-fer. We got a BONUS! Not only do we get Drake and Delia, but we get Sander and Nastia. OhMyGoodness! I will tell you right now, be very careful where you read, it's a bit embarrassing to think you may have to go to the bathroom and umm... sort yourself out when you're at work.

Sander and Nastia are one hot duo and they burn it down. Literally.

Drake and Delia, my heart can't take it. So much emotion with these two and so much frustration. I was ready to just throw them in a room together and to hell with the consequences. And when it finally happened, it was amazing. It was beautiful, and I'm a fan of dragons, so I loved every minute I got with these two.

Aside from amazing couples with off the charts chemistry and hot as hell sexy times, there is the ongoing storyline. Hello, Hades! I've got my eyes on you. Something hinky is going down in the realms, and I'm kind of in awe at where things are headed. I got to the end and I wanted more... who am I kidding, I always want more.

Setta likes to leave you hanging on the edge of your seat, just waiting for the next book. And, she does it every freaking time.

I can't say enough good things about this series. It gets better and better as you go along. Setta sets a precedent with every book she writes in this series. In each subsequent book she ups the ante. I'm not sure where things will go from here. All I know is that they will definitely be awesome and they will definitely be hot and I will definitely be reading them.
