TBR Jar #1 {Blue Shoes}

Kumiko Lei     3 Stars, Blue Shoes, JJ Knight, Review, TBR Jar     No comments

So... my kids like the TBR Jar. They were so excited and all three of them wanted to be the one to pull the first book. I'm guessing, it's the randomness of the whole thing that appeals to them.

Or, it could be that they're hoping to pull a book with dirty words in the title. It could happen.

My son got the honor of pulling the first book. I was cringing, while he was fishing around in the jar. I was hoping beyond hope that he WOULD NOT pull a book with the word "fuck" in the title (yes, there are a few in there).

Thank you! Dear.Sweet.Bearded.Baby.Jesus. He picked Blue Shoes #1 by JJ Knight.

It's free for Kindle, Nook & Kobo. Guilt-free one-click. No harm, no foul.

Everyone wants a piece of sexy singer Dylan Wolf in the new rock star erotic romance, Blue Shoes. Jess Rivera is a young music executive engaged to Morris Music's hottest rock star: Dylan Wolf.

She wears a gorgeous diamond ring on her finger, and everyone wants to know when they're getting married.

Between Dylan's screaming fans who chase him everywhere, plus their glamorous L.A. lifestyle, the couple can hardly get a moment alone together.

That's why they're planning a secret wedding.

But when a visit to a bridal gown boutique goes terribly wrong, all their romantic plans are ruined.

Sometimes it feels like the whole world is against the couple's love. Is it just bad luck, or is someone trying to destroy Dylan Wolf?

BLUE SHOES Volume 1 is the first in a 3-part series about Jess Rivera and Dylan Wolf. This is the same couple from JJ KNIGHT's 5-part REVENGE series, but BLUE SHOES can be enjoyed without having read the earlier books.

"Drama. Suspense. Passion. Blue Shoes is another hit romance from JJ Knight!"

See, I have a problem... actually, I have two problems.

1. I have a freebie addiction. I just cannot resist when I see that the price is $0.00.
2. I am not a fan of serials. I almost loathe them, especially when it says it is a series.

I must be a masochist because I keep one-clicking those freebies and I keep reading these serials.

I'm not quite sure how I managed to do this, but I got Blue Shoes #1, #2, and #3 as freebies -- so in essence, I got one whole free novel. Woot! Woot! Raise the roof! (sorry, #2 and #3 aren't free anymore)

My TBR Jar pick turned into a 3 for 1 deal!

Overall, the story wasn't too bad. I did have quite a few "are you fucking kidding me" moments, though.

My immediate impression of Jess was not a good one, and I was having a hard time understanding how she thought it was a good idea to get married. If she was having to "walk on eggshells" around Dylan all the time, things were bound to blow up.

And the catalyst for the conflict --

Their phones were hacked. Dun.dun.dun.

Totes Obvi!

How Dylan and Jess didn't put this together is beyond me.

Dylan is just an asshat. I mean, why is it okay for him to kiss some random chick and call it "fun"? And then get pissed at Jess because some handsy dude kissed her.

And then Jess justifies Dylan's kiss by saying the girl is so charming that she could understand how it happened.

What the ever loving fuck? No... just... NO.

By the end, they both pulled their heads out of their asses and made nicey, nicey with each other.

I thought about going back to read Revenge, but I think Blue Shoes 1-3 gave me all of Jess and Dylan I could handle for awhile.

I'm rating these 3 stars. Admittedly, I had a lot of issues with it, but it did keep me reading. I could have stopped when I finished Book 1, but it was like I couldn't stop. I had to keep watching the train wreck, so to speak.

Maybe reading Revenge will give me insight that will change my opinions of the characters? I don't know. Only time will tell...
