I really wasn't quite sure what to expect when I started this. I had never read anything by Reese Monroe before. So, I jumped in with both feet.
Am I glad I did? Absolutely!
I was immediately pulled into this world of Shomrei, companions, mates and demons. I loved, loved, loved the paranormal elements to this story.
Other than that, the thing that really stuck with me was how the mated pairs draw their strength from one another. They can calm each other, heal each other and their drive to be together is so strong that they let nothing keep them apart.
The fact that Theo waited 900 years, for his mate, before he "broke his seal", so to speak, is extraordinary and just goes the extra mile to show how seriously he takes finding his mate.
As far as the characters are concerned, there isn't a weak one in the bunch. Even the secondary and tertiary characters are well written.
Sadie... Oh, Sadie. When we finally get her history and where she came from, excellent. I was not expecting that.
I think Reese Monroe did a great job with this as a first in the series and I'm sure the Bound By Hades Series will only get better.

Justin... He's fought against the whole mate concept for over 900 years and then it just smacks him in the face. In that respect I think he is the perfect companion for Theo, the exact opposite. And he's a dirty, dirty boy. He's my kind of guy!
I will admit I was a little disappointed with who his mate was and I tried to bargain with my brain to deny it, but in the end it seems The Great One knows what he's doing.
I really wasn't sure about Yvonne and all her issues but once I learned her history and the more she showed her true self she redeemed herself immensely and I was rooting for her. I will say though at one point I wanted to cry. I could NOT believe what was happening.
This installment was just as good, if not better than the first. It left a lot open for future books and if we can count on my psychic abilities, I see heartbreak and an ultimate betrayal coming. I can't wait to see what happens in the next few books.
