A Capella Series Review (Books #1 & #1.5)

Sarah      4 Stars, A Cappella Series, Our A Cappella, Series Review, Yessi Smith     No comments

Book #1 Life's A Cappella
Book #2 Our A Cappella (April 2014)
Book #3 My A Cappella (coming winter 2014)

**Mature Content Warning** Recommended for ages 17+ due to language and sexual content.

I want to tell you how great my life was.

How I lived without regrets. With constant laughter. Without any tears. I want to tell you how I lived each moment to the fullest. How each breath I took was fresh and full of life. With eagerness. Without any fear.

I want to tell you all of that, but then my story would be masked with lies and not worth telling.

My life didn't start until I left my past. And I left everything...

My mother, my friends, my name. My new name, the name everyone knows me by is Erin Lewis.

Four years after finding the courage to leave her hometown in Alabama, Erin is finally happy with where her life has led her. Not only is she secure in her environment, but the relationships she has formed center her, making her forget how damaged she once was. Before she can fully settle into her new life, her past crashes into her present, unraveling a set of events that destroy the very foundation she has built her new life on.

Erin Lewis was a girl who grew up with a life she wanted to forget.  She was deprived of her childhood and many memories that haunt her as nightmares.  She has a few friends that she has allowed into her life but not get too close.  She moves away from her hometown looking to move on and change her life completely.  Little does she know, that she is the one that needs saving…  Music tends to be her salvation and saving grace that is her coping mechanism.

Trent is the hot band member that catches everyone’s eye but he plays an instrument that Erin least expects, a harmonica.  Erin tries to allow Trent to break down the walls around her heart, but is he kind words and heart enough to break them down?

Trent & Erin’s mothers have something in common, they both have addictions.  Will this help them understand each other’s pasts to mend their problems with their relationship?  Or pull them apart because they can’t figure out how to cope with each other’s hidden secrets/pasts?

Reading this story really makes you think “compared to this person’s story, my life isn’t as bad as I make it out to be.”  I can totally relate to feeling this way. I recently had something horrible happen to me and I’m doing better every day, trying to live each day one a time and become stronger.  As I see what other people are going through and dealing with around me, I feel ashamed of having a pity party for myself.

I gave this story 4 stars.  This story was well written and I can totally relate to the country girl/boy atmosphere.  I really enjoyed it and look forward to see what’s to come in the upcoming stories as well.  I highly recommend it.  Get your copy today and check out what’s to come in “Our A Capella.”

Five months after their wedding, Trent struggles with the strain of juggling work and family life as Erin furthers her education, getting a Master's degree in Nursing. All Trent wants is one weekend alone with his wife to reconnect but Erin's focus is adamantly elsewhere.

Meanwhile, Nate, Erin's oldest friend and brother, has formed an undeniable bond with Tonya that he is reluctant to pursue because of his own inner demons.

Our A Capella is a novella (#1.5 of the A Capella Series)
This novella is told from Trent & Nate’s POV.  Trent & Erin are now married and Trent feels like he is being put on the back burner in his wife’s priorities.  Trent just wants to show his wife how much she means to him.  Erin is still very stubborn, but is trying to build a better life for them as a family by continuing her education and getting her Master’s degree.

Nate is Erin’s “brother”, childhood friend, and Shayna’s uncle.  He has become a big part of this family circle and while staying with Trent & Erin he forms an attraction to Tonya.  Nate has his own secrets that he is hiding.  His truth will be revealed whether he is ready to share or not.

It always seems the ones who do the most good, get hurt the most, or the worst seems to happen to them.  Check out this novella and see Trent and Nate’s story moving forward.  I absolutely cannot wait to see what is to come of book 3!  I also gave this book a 4 star rating.
