Consumed

Sarah      5 Stars, Consumed, Emily Snow, Review     No comments

**Review**
First of all, I absolutely love Emily Snow and this is one of my favorite series.  Reading order: All Over You, Devoured, Absorbed & Consumed.  Must read in order!  The novellas give a better background & history of the characters.  Who can resist Lucas effin Wolfe?  Sienna and Lucas are two of my favorite characters.  Sienna is so sweet and innocent and is totally consumed by Lucas.  There is another book "Savor You" that tells Kylie & Wyatt's story.

Sienna decides to go on tour with Your Toxic Sequel (Lucas' band).  She has tried to keep Lucas in the dark because she thinks she can handle things herself.  She tries to avoid the media and Lucas's ex wife Sam, but she is hit with threats, gifts and then an attack in the meantime while trying to deal with jealous Cilla on tour.  Sienna is determined to do her job and stand by her man.  She tells herself no matter what Lucas's secret is, she loves him.  She doesn't even call Lucas at her attack, but a family member who loves her more than you think.

This book has many roller coasters.  At the end you find out what Lucas has been hiding all along and even his sister Kylie is shocked at what Lucas confesses.  But then the truth comes out about his secret.  Kylie also reveals a secret of her own in this book.  This book is a must read!!  The truth is revealed about Lucas and Sienna is totally consumed!!

No matter how long it took for this book to come out, I support Emily Snow 100% and I can not get enough of Lucas effin Wolfe.  He is a rock star!  I look forward to hearing more about them even from Kylie's point of view.

Another good book by this author is : Tidal.

So far I've read everything she has published.  Please check out these two book trailers for what's to come...so excited!!

Review: Hard As You Can (Hard Ink #2) by Laura Kaye

Kumiko Lei     4 Stars, Hard As You Can, Hard Ink, Laura Kaye, Review     No comments

Synopsis:

Five dishonored soldiers.
Former Special Forces.
One last mission.
These are the men of Hard Ink.

Ever since hard-bodied, drop-dead-charming Shane McCallan strolled into the dance club where Crystal Dean works, he's shown a knack for getting beneath her defenses. For her little sister's sake, Crystal can't get too close. Until her job and Shane's mission intersect, and he reveals talents that go deeper than she could have guessed.

Shane would never turn his back on a friend in need, especially a former Special Forces teammate running a dangerous, off-the-books operation. Nor can he walk away from Crystal. The gorgeous waitress is hiding secrets she doesn't want him to uncover. Too bad. He's exactly the man she needs to protect her sister, her life, and her heart. All he has to do is convince her that when something feels this good, you hold on as hard as you can--and never let go.

Review:

As far as books go, you could write anything, set it in Virginia and I'm going to attempt to read it.

Not set in Virginia?  No worries, just make one of your characters a Virginian, odds are I'll give that a try too.

You want to get me, I mean, really get me (fyi, me = crazy, book boyfriends are real and I will stalk them to them to the ends of the earth kind of chick)?  Take a lesson from Laura Kaye.

Do you know what she did?  She made Shane McCallan from Southern Virginia.  Those two words had me. They are all I focused on the entire time I was reading the book. Because *squeeee* I'm from Southern Virginia too!

She could've written "Shane McCallan has muscles, ripped abs, tattoos and is from Southern Virginia" for 300 pages and I probably would've loved every minute.  I know, I know, I'm a little off my rocker.  So what?

Anyhow, lets do this thing, shall we.

I love these Hard Ink Boys.  They are working hard to clear their names and to save innocent people in the process.

Shane has some leftover baggage from his childhood and yeesh, he carries some heavy duty guilt.  Crystal, she has suffered so terribly because of her father and for the sake of her sister.  I'm so glad these two found each other.  They help each other in ways that they didn't know they needed.  And they are so good together.

I really enjoy the fact that the heroines in this series are not the weak, woe is me, someone save me types. They are strong women who are doing what they need to do and will continue to do it with or without help. They get knocked down, they get back up and keep going.  I absolutely love it.

And the sexy times?  Woo!  Hot!  But, honestly, I would read this even without them (but I'm glad I don't have to).  The suspense... so much suspense!  I was holding my breath at certain points, almost afraid of what might happen.

Even more than that, I'm so curious to find out how deep this cover-up goes.  And I have to know what was in those files at Confessions.  This was so good, and I am going to be waiting very impatiently for the next one.

One last thing:  For the record, I want to stab Bruno in the eyes with a fork.

All The Pretty Poses

Sarah      5 Stars, All The Pretty Poses, M. Leighton, Pretty, Review     No comments

Attention: May Contain Spoilers
**Review**

First of all, I am such a FanGirl of Michelle Leighton's.  I love all her work that i've read and slowly reading everything that she has put out.  Her books keep getting better and better.  I always feel like I can relate to her characters and everything is very vivid.  You can picture yourself there.

This book can be read as a stand alone but it is #2 in the "All The Pretty Lies" series.  I loved Kennedy & Reese's story!!  Their story starts when they are young and they reappear into each other lives unexpectedly again later.  Being the hopeless romantic that I am, I wanted Reese & Kennedy to end up together. Just when I kept trying to predict how they would end up and what would happen, there was another bit of information added into their story that kept making it better!  I'm so happy that Reese never gave up on that spot in his heart for Kennedy and that Kennedy kept on letting Reese in. There was totally a reason why all the "family connections" ended up the way they were, so the "true Spencer family" ended up together. I look forward to seeing more of these characters in upcoming books and I hope they end up with the little girl that Reese wishes to have.  This is definately a must read!  I had tears of joy upon completion of this book and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

The next to come is Sig's story.  I can't wait to read about him.  He is going to be a lot of fun too.  As stated above, this can be read as a stand alone but I recommend reading "All the Pretty Lies" first because it helps put all the characters together and give you some more background.

Yay! My cousin is here!!!

Kumiko Lei     Getting Help, Introduction, Sarah     No comments

So, you know how sometimes nothing will get posted here for awhile?  Well, I'm working on it.

I have enlisted some help for those times when I'm too involved in what I'm reading or when I'm just slacking off.

See that chica over there?  Yeah, that's my cousin and she likes books only slightly less than I do.

She'll be doing reviews and whatever else tickles her fancy.

So, while I'm getting her set-up and situated over here, be nice and say hi!

And yes, we are both cartoon people on the internets.  Oddly enough, our toonies really do look like us.

Review: The Ballad of Mila (Mila Zago #1) by Matteo Strukul

Kumiko Lei     4 Stars, Matteo Strukul, Mila Zago, NetGalley, Review, The Ballad Of Mila     No comments

Alright, I'll admit it, I saw the cover and hit the request button without reading the blurb. I didn't even read the blurb after I was approved for it.

Why would I do such a thing? Well, I have a little cover lust problem, and I thought this cover was freaking bad-ass.

This is not my typical read. This is not a romance. This is a balls-to-the-wall, revenge filled, graphic, bloody, crime novel.

Mila Zago, who is she? She is a bad-ass, katana swinging, gun shooting, punch throwing Italian chick with the biggest balls I've ever seen. She is awesome. I think I may be in love with her.

When you get right down to it, this story is Italian Mafia vs. Chinese Gang vs. Mila Zago.

I have so many thoughts running through my head where this book is concerned. I really did enjoy it. It was bloody and violent and I did do some cringing. Despite all of that, I still liked it and I didn't want to stop reading it. This is supposed to be the first in a series about Mila and I think I may continue on with it. Its a good break from my usual.

I did have a couple of things that bugged me with it. One being the racial slurs in the beginning. They did seem to die off and I wasn't really sure what their purpose was. The other thing was all of Mila's "matrix-like" skills. The author explained her strength and all with the training she had but some of it just seemed unreal. Those were my only gripes. Other than that, I really did enjoy this.

If you're looking for something with a kick-ass heroine and you can handle the violence you will ultimately like this.

Review: The Virgin: Redemption by J. Dallas

Kumiko Lei     3 Stars, J. Dallas, NetGalley, Redemption, Review, The Virgin     No comments

Redemption picks up right where Revenge ended. Drake found Shannon in the cemetery and this is where I started losing it. The story of how her father was killed and the whole situation surrounding that was gut-wrenching and I was in tears reading that. I knew in Revenge that whatever her issues were they were big and painful and I was not wrong.

And I did enjoy the emotional connection that Shannon and Drake share. I enjoyed Redemption but I was expecting a little more.

My main issue was Drake's explanation for his douche-baggery all those years ago.

Was that a shock to read? Yeah.

Was it believable? Uh...No.

It just doesn't jive with sexual the sexual beast he seems to be now.

Shannon and her issues with the murderers... I'm glad she got past those somewhat, at least she decided not to let them control her life anymore.

Although the ending makes everything seem honky-dory, it was just a little too abrupt for me. Not sure if it really was that abrupt or if it just feels that way because it might be leading into a third book?

Overall, it was decent and if you read Revenge, you will be compelled to finish the journey and read Redemption.

Review: Marked by Lauren Dane, Vivian Arend, and Kit Rocha

Kumiko Lei     4 Stars, All That Remains, Anthology, Beyond, Beyond Temptation, Kit Rocha, Lauren Dane, Marked, Metamorphosis, Review, Rocky Ride, Thompson & Sons, Vivian Arend     No comments

Marked is an anthology with shorts from Lauren Dane, Vivian Arend, and Kit Rocha. And since I'm a dunce, I was halfway through the second short when I realized the common theme was tattoos. You would think that I would've caught on sooner given that the title is "Marked" and that beautiful cover.

Even though they are all shorts they pack a huge, steamy, sexy times punch.

With Beyond Temptation, I got to venture back into Sector 4 with the O'Kanes and I was not disappointed. Hot, tech-geek Noah and used-to-be innocent Emma find their way back to each other. Along the way things are hot and dirty and intense and dirty and well... dirty. Everything you expect from the Beyond Series and Kit Rocha. A-maz-ing!

Rocky Ride was not my first read by Vivian Arend, but it was a whole different experience this time around. I loved Mitch and Anna.  Their chemistry was off the charts and it wasn't so much what they did that made it so hot (though it helped), it was the way they did it.  If the Six Pack Ranch Series is as hot as this was I'll definitely being going back to read it.

Lauren Dane is new to me, but I was pleasantly surprised.  All That Remains had quite a few editing issues, but it was an ARC so I let that go (although, it did make it harder to get through).  At any rate, Summer, Charlie and Hatch, yeah.  They were great together.  Their individual relationships were what really intrigued me.  I like that there is no jealousy within the triad, only outside of it.  Summer is so independent and I'm glad she made Hatch work for his place back in her life.  And the sexy times.  Wooh!  Yeah... by the time I finished this, well... lets just say my husband was a very happy man.

Review: Kaleidoscope (Colorado Mountain #6) by Kristen Ashley

Kumiko Lei     4 Stars, Colorado Mountain, Kaleidoscope, Kristen Ashley, NetGalley, Review     No comments

When old friends become new lovers...anything can happen.

Sexy, gifted, and loyal, PI Jacob Decker is a tall, cool drink of perfection who had Emmanuelle Holmes at "hello." His relationship with Emme's best friend kept them apart for years, but things have changed. Now that a case has brought him to Gnaw Bone, Colorado, the road is wide open for Emme and Deck to explore something hotter and deeper than Emme dreamed possible. So why is she sabotaging the best thing that's ever happened to her?

It isn't easy to catch Deck off guard, but Emme does just that when she walks back into his life after nine long years. The curvy brunette had her charms back in the day, but now she's a bona fide knockout . . . and she wants to rekindle their friendship. Deck, however, wants more. Emme's always been the one; she excites Deck's body and mind like no other woman can. But a dark chapter from Emme's past overshadows their future together. Now only Deck can help her turn the page-if she'll let him . . .

*Complimentary copy received from Netgalley for review purposes.

I've been curious about Jacob Decker since the end of Breathe. My mind kept asking, "Who did he lose and how did he lose her?" You would think I might have the answers after reading Kaleidoscope, but either I'm really dense and just missed it (which is entirely possible) or it was left vague. It really doesn't matter much in the grand scheme, I suppose.

If you're a Colorado Mountain fan, you're going to enjoy this one. Deck is true to form as far as his uber-alpha-ness (yeah, I made it up, so what?) is concerned. And Emme is the quintessential heroine just with a tad more baggage then the rest. Really, though, I like Emme's baggage, makes me feel like maybe I'm not alone in my craziness.

I can't really say too much because I feel like everything I want to say is a spoiler and I'm trying really, really hard not to do that.

I did enjoy the cameos from from everyone in Gnaw Bone and Carnal, even though Ty's appearance was minimal. (*pouts* I really need more Ty in my life)

Did I like it? Absolutely. Is Deck swoonworthy? Hell Yes! Is Emme worthy of the girl posse? Y to the U to the P.

All in all, totally worth the money that you know you're going to spend on it and the sleep you're going to miss staying up to read it.
